A few quick highlights to share:
- 240 startups made this year’s list - up from around 140 last year. Huge growth.
- 43% of startups in Bay Area
- 30+ top venture firms submitted names this year - up from ~20 or so last year, including some of the best funds on earth:
- As expected, AI is the main driver of the size of the list. The growth of these companies is unprecedented - the 2025 exceptional startups are growing faster than any cohort of startups I’ve ever studied. Eric said it perfectly here:
I also thought it would be useful to share how last year’s list turned out:
- Over 100,000 job seekers used ExceptionalStartups.com to find their next role
- Several dozen founders shared that they used their inclusion on the list as a selling point to potential candidates
- 5+ investors used the list to help them close candidates on behalf of their portfolio
- Several dozen exceptional startups raised large up-rounds or even filed to go public! Very cool to see.
A good first year - certainly an experiment worth continuing.
